Size up the competition

If there is any one thing that I hate the most about the music world, it is the fact that everyone seems to compare their music, their art and their career to yours and everyone else’s when in reality none of that actually matters at all. Every musician or band that I ever seem to come across has to tell me about what record they are recording and what tour they are on and how long it is and they tend to lay out the details of how this or that label is talking to them and bla bla bla…

I honestly can say that I don’t really mind that at all. I like hearing people get excited about things. I like hearing people’s hopes and such, but the down side to it is that in return I tend to generally turn it around and also share with them what I am doing with tour and records and yada yada. As a result I have formed the habit of tell people about all of my junk for no reason and it is making me sick. In a way it feels really boastful as in look at me and what I am doing. Honestly I don’t care that people know how far I have come or any of that. I am just doing what I love to do and by the grace of God, it provides to a degree.

From here on out I am going to do my best to take a different approach when dealing with people in the music world. If they feel like telling me all of their junk and boasting it up, then more power to you, but I am sick and tired of us comparing to one another. Can’t we just be musical artists who help each other rather than try to climb over each other to get higher up? Yes, I have come a long way and I will probably get a little farther before my career takes a major break, but that doesn’t give me the right to brag about it.

Humility is the key to success and I pray that the competitive habits I have formed break.

my dog needs a shower

Honestly can’t say that I have anything super important to post today about tour or whatever. We are sitting in a Denny’s drinking endless sodas and using free internet and I honestly just needed something to do. But no matter, you are reading this regardless. Last night’s show in Dallas was great. We had a lot of fun and got treated really well. My good friend Cameron seen above totally hooked us up with a meal and some gas after the show. Thanks for being a true friend and helping us out man. You are really cool. And yes i am still wearing the same brown shirt today that i wore in yesterdays blog post.

My dog officially needs a shower!

taking its time

Today has been rather relaxing compared to the semi existing week that I have had. I love tour, but after 7 solid shows back to back, a day off is in order. Today isn’t a day of because we are playing in Dallas, but when I woke up, we drove to a really nice site and sat back for a few hours just talking and enjoying the view. After lunch we took Captain to a park and I fell asleep on the bench for like an hour. It has been a nice day. Hopefully the show goes well.

got to love it

You have to love when unexpected things come your way. This last two weeks of tour have been freaking super sick awesome up until about two days ago when the radiator spiked on the overheat factor. That junk was bone dry. We ended up getting it locked at and held out for a day despite the fact that I already knew of one very large crack in that beast. We held out until today only because today was an off day. Today we got the radiator replaced which was a bit of a bummer as I am sure you can imagine. At least we were prepared and got it fixed. Back on the road and good as new for sure. We played in Oklahoma City, OK last night and play in Dallas, TX tomorrow.

Kansas

Despite this stressful photo, today’s show in Kansas was great. Jimmy, the victim in my newest zombie image is a good friend of mine and we played for his church tonight in Wichita. It is with nights light tonight that come joy and a sense of worth with what you are doing. I constantly play shows all over the place but it’s that show where you know that you know you connected with the listeners that really makes it worthwhile. Tonight was one of those for sure.

all at once

The following images are a quick list of things that I have gotten into this week!We went to a old 1860’s place where people got hung and junk, went to the big peanut thing and attempted to get a tour but was denied (Kraft is lame like that) played some great shows and road on a train. I left the train pictures out. Or did i?

walk it up

Yesterday, like most days when Sarah and I have some time to kill before a show, we went on a hike through the woods and happened upon a sweet rock mountain thing. Captain also took a few laps in the lake while we were out.

Sarah also mentioned to me today that she enjoyed my blog more back when I posted random cool things that I found off the inter web rather than just always posting things about tour. So I think I am going to try to get back o doing that more often.
